Day 10740
Tuesday, 15 January 2019

I don’t know how much I currently weigh. I don’t have a weighing scale, although I am eating fine, and according to my schedule on most days. But there are days (like yesterday) when I skip breakfast because I procrastinated, and I am duly punished at the end of the day with a severe headache, and swearing never to miss a meal ever.

Dijana says, “I watch Balika Vadhu.”

I’m like, …why?

A new batch of A1 started yesterday. The batch has a Kenyan, Malawian, Italian, Chinese and Czechian. I am having fun showing off my besser Deutsch for them during the break.

“Hallo! Ich heiรŸe Naveen. Wie heiรŸt du?”
“Ich… heiรŸe… Andreas”
“Woher kommst du?”
“…ich… komme… … … aus… Kenia”
“Ah! Wann bist du nach Deutschland gekommen?”

Mind blown.

Appy: “Stell dir vor, wenn du B2 erreichst! Du kannst noch mehr angeben!”

Now that, is showing off.

“Und du wรผrdest nur davon trรคumen kรถnnen, ehe du einen Tag die C1 angestrebten Kenntnisse verinnerlicht hรคttest”, she continues.

And that… is bullying.

It is nice talking to them though. The only thing I know about Kenya is the cricket players. But the Kenyan does not know them, unfortunately. When cricket is out of the window, my ability to appear knowledgeable reduces by half.

Fun Fact: Wikipedia turns 18 today.

I am having milk rice, papad, pickle and yoghurt for dinner. One of those lazy days.

I watched Padman today. The man who made sanitary pads affordable for all women in India. 10/10 for story. 8/10 for movie. You should watch the TED talk of the real guy this movie is based on. Very inspiring… for an engineer. Necessity is the mother of innovation.

I watched it because Malika said she watched it already. What a shame.

Cricket:
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ India beat Australia ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ
๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฒ Myanmar beat Bhutan ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡น

Day 10741
Wednesday, 16 January 2019

I used to watch Grand Slams as a kid. My dad is a huge tennis fan. The 2012 Wimbledon final was the last full game of tennis I may have watched.

Facebook’s 10 Year Challenge is shady – yah or nah?

I’m too lazy to cook today. I’m getting a pom dรถner. After ages. It has snowed only once this season.

I hope we are able to retain our Prime Minister for another term. But this is a democracy. My contribution is only 1 in 1.34 billion. Exaggerated, of course. It was 814.5 million in 2014, and we had a 66.4% turnout, so around 541 million voted. Every 5 years, we break the record for highest number of people voting in general elections.

I didn’t vote in 2014. No vote, no complain.

Also, why are people randomly carrying around on the streets what appears like Christmas trees?

Cricket:
๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ต Nepal beat Thailand ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ
๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ Malaysia beat China ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ
๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ฐ Hong Kong beat Myanmar ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฒ

๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡ณ Vietnam beat Yemen ๐Ÿ‡พ๐Ÿ‡ช, 2-0
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ท Iran drew Iraq ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ถ, 0-0

Day 10742
Thursday, 17 January 2019

See: Dog Accidentally Runs Half-Marathon After Being Let Out For Pee, Finishes 7th

My replacement kit is still Frankfurt for the past 4 days. Someone really does not want my DNA to be tested. Seriously. I ordered and paid them in November. First, my saliva mysteriously disappears in the mail, now the replacement kit won’t even reach me.

“MyHeritage is better”, says Mina.

Yeah, that is what my roommate went for. I am beginning to regret this. He ordered after me, and he already got his results. I am still waiting to submit mine. And it takes 8 weeks for the results after the sample reaches them. That could be April. Whom do I blame for the delay? Whom do I blame for the lost sample? No response since Tuesday. I am starting to get the feeling I am not going to get a DNA evaluation.

Cricket, Ranji Trophy QF, Karnataka vs Rajasthan, End of Day 3:
Rajasthan (1st inning) 224 all out
Karnataka (1st inning) 263 all out
Rajasthan (2nd inning) 222 all out

๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต Japan beat Uzbekistan ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฟ, 2-1
๐Ÿ‡ถ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Qatar beat Saudi Arabia ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฆ, 2-0
๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ง Lebanon beat North Korea ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ต, 4-1

Day 10743
Friday, 18 January 2019

Cricket:
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ India beat Australia ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ
๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ฐ Hong Kong beat Thailand ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ
๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฒ Myanmar beat Malaysia ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ
๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ต Nepal beat Indonesia ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ
๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ Thailand beat United Arab Emirates ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ช

India won both the test series and the ODI series. That was a successful Australian tour.

ODIs seem to have run its course. It was good until the T20s came around. I still think they should do a test cricket format out of them. Team A plays 20 overs, then B plays 20, A plays 20 again, and B chases it down in the last inning. 80 overs is a good enough one day. Also fun to watch, and new strategies too, with more than one inning per game.

I am going on my first proper hike on Sunday. Monschau – Teufelsley and Engelsley. With strangers.

Cricket, Ranji Trophy QF, Karnataka vs Rajasthan:
Rajasthan (1st inning) 224 all out
Karnataka (1st inning) 263 all out
Rajasthan (2nd inning) 222 all out
Karnataka (2nd inning) 185/4
Karnataka win by 6 wickets

Day 10744
Saturday, 19 January 2019

My replacement DNA kit finally arrived. I think I solved the mystery as to why my DNA never reached. I am guessing Deutsche Post discarded it. I went up and enquired instead of dropping it in the mailbox this time. I was asked to pay โ‚ฌ19.48 for shipping even though it says prepaid airmail on the box. The lady said it is free only within Ireland but I have to pay from Germany. I don’t understand what is the point of prepaid then. Prepaid means it is already paid! Prepaid means I shouldn’t have to pay again. This DNA shit is costing me meals.

“I hope you find out soon that you are Indian”, says Mina.

Touchรฉ.

I have a 12 km hike tomorrow. I shall survive. It is not much, is it? I cannot, of course, wear my coat. I want to stay warm but also be able to move freely. I will have to pile on the layers. If I die out there, tell Val-E it is hidden wh’re the travelling lamp doest not shineth, and it wilt only beest hath opened at which hour the moon is on the full.

Cricket:
๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ฐ Pakistan beat South Africa ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ
๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ Malaysia beat Thailand ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ
๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ฐ Hong Kong beat Myanmar ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฒ
๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ช United Arab Emirates beat Indonesia ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ
๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ Thailand beat Nepal ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ต

Football:
Alemannia Aachen drew Worms, 2-2

Day 10745
Sunday, 20 January 2019

0701 h: It is -9ยฐ in Monschau. This should be fun.

1033 h: The couple sitting in front of me in the bus is doing a coochycoo.

1924 h: I am back! I have encountered zero wildlife. Germany is a boring country. No pictures here because WordPress only gives me 6 GB of image hosting, and I might need it for other things. Unfortunately, I do not have Instagram anymore either, so no pictures at all for you. The really good ones may or may not turn up on my DeviantArt photography page some day. No promises yet though. Also, my phone died in the midst of the hike, so I could not take as many pictures as I would have liked.

1941 h: It was cold and slippery and I am dead tired now. I got some chicken nuggets and fries from Westpark Grill on the way home. I just finished eating them.

1943 h: I had fun! I made new friends. I picked a fight, and lost because my stalactite sword broke. My legs are hurting crazy, especially the left calf muscle. I think it was the shoes. I should have worn sturdier boots. Since it was uneven and slippery, the pain started in the ankles and moved up to the knee. I think I am going to take a shower and crash.

2015 h: Wait, so that forward fold… Can everybody else touch their feet when you bend forward? I have never been able to do that.

I think the fact that I had 6 layers on top and only 2 on the bottom made it worse. That and lack of weather appropriate shoes.

Cricket, Asia Cup (West):
Match 1: ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ญ Bahrain beat Saudi Arabia ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฆ
Match 2: ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ผ Kuwait beat Maldives ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ป

Football, AFC Asian Cup, Playoffs:
๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡ณ Vietnam beat Jordan ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ด, 2-1
๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ China beat Thailand ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ, 2-1
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ท Iran beat Oman ๐Ÿ‡ด๐Ÿ‡ฒ, 2-0

It is a pity Jordan got knocked out. They were playing well. Also, have you seen the flag of Oman? The top left corner is supposed to be swords, dagger and stuff. But it looks more like an alphabet out of Mandarin.

Week 1534 : Sprich mit ihr?

Continued fromย Day 10731

Day 10732
Monday, 7 January 2019

I am loving the charcoal on paper, except the loud scratching noises it makes, which is inconvenient for my roommates. Gaurav and I went and got the blender exchanged. The store guy was kind enough to replace it with a new one, even though broken plastic parts are not covered by warranty.

I woke up with a terrible headache this morning. This time it was the right temple. I have no idea how or why I get these headaches. I went and got some Ibuprofen anyway. German classes resumed from today. I almost dozed in class at one time. In other news, IAF fighter jets to get superior shelters to protect them from Chinese bombs.

Head over to You Versus State for a special feature about how much of one’s country one has in them. On a related note, why do Americans perceive Pakistan as the friendly “stan” while all the others get a bad reputation? In my opinion, Pakistan sucked up to USA back in the day (I don’t know how their relations are now) because the Soviet preferred to help India during the liberation of Bangladesh (formerly East Pakistan) in 1971. The 1971 war threatened to blow up into a world war because USA, UK, Soviet, etc got involved, but it was nipped in the bud soon enough when Pakistan surrendered.

Shit got more intense in 1971 than history remembers. (Source: Wikipedia)

I never answer the phone, especially if I know the number. I don’t even call back. I am a special kind of rude.

Cricket, ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Australia vs India ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ:
India (1st inning) 622/7 declared
Australia (1st inning) 300 all out
Australia (2nd inning) 6/0
Match drawn

India win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, 2-1. Historic series win for India! First ever on Australian soil, in 72 years.

Ari asks,ย “Is Kohli one of the best captains you guys have ever had?”

He is two test wins away from being the greatest ever. That is impressive considering he has only been captain since 2014. He did win the U19 World Cup in 2008, so he has been captain from his early days. But then he also captains RCB and we haven’t won shit in all these years, so I cannot really tell.

“What’s RCB?” she asks.

See, this is why we aren’t Facebook friends. To be fair, I do not follow the Big Bash either, but that is just because Indian players do not feature in it, except for two of them. Harmanpreet Kaur plays for Sydney Thunder and Smriti Mandhana plays for Hobart Hurricanes, and that is only because we do not have a Women’s IPL yet.

Cricket:
๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ผ Zimbabwe beat Namibia ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

Cricket, Baroda vs Karnataka, End of Day 1:
Karnataka (1st inning) 112 all out
Baroda (1st inning) 223 all out
Karnataka (2nd inning) 13/2
Karnataka trail by 98 runs

Football, AFC Asian Cup:
๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ China beat Kyrgyzstan ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ฌ, 2-1
๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท South Korea beat Philippines ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ, 1-0
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ท Iran beat Yemen ๐Ÿ‡พ๐Ÿ‡ช, 5-0

I love the football league we have, but that’s just because at least Bengaluru FC, our football club, wins titles regularly. Just like Virat Kohli (Indian cricket team captain) captains the Bangalore’s cricket team, Sunil Chhetri (Indian football team captain) captains Bangalore’s football team. We like to have the best player on our side. He scored two goals in yesterday’s win over Thailand in the Asian Cup.

Did you know I ran into Sunil Chhetri at the Paris Airport on Independence Day 2018? He is one of the best athletes we have in the country right now.

See: Superheroes Reimagined as 16th Century Paintings

I want to draw the Batman! In the world of sports, the IPL 2019 will be played entirely in India, will begin on 23 March.

Are wearing gloves in high school chemistry laboratory a thing? I do not recall wearing any. The only times I wore gloves ever before I got to Germany was: 1) During welding workshop in first year engineering; 2) Playing cricket. Now I wear gloves every day.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This was us in Biology lab, so proud that we extracted DNA from a banana, yeast and an onion. That’s my friend Srikumar, who is a surgeon somewhere in the UK. Now he extracts stuff from humans to keep them alive. And I am still here.

The point was, the lab coat was the most safety gear we had to wear. Half of those stains on my coat are contributed by Nikita Baliga. We had places allocated in alphabetical order, which was not good for me, because once something flew out of Nikita’s test tube and landed plop on top of my head. It was hot but not acidic because I didn’t feel a thing. But it was scary just being next to her.

Val-E says, “The fluffy hair protected you. She sounds scary.”

Val is always right. Nikita became an architect though, so good luck to Val’s profession.

Cricket:

Cricket, Baroda vs Karnataka:
Karnataka (1st inning) 112 all out
Baroda (1st inning) 223 all out
Karnataka (2nd inning) 220 all out
Baroda (2nd inning) 110/8
Baroda win by 2 wickets

Karnataka already made it to the quarterfinals, fortunately.

Football, AFC Asian Cup:
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ถ Iraq beat Vietnam ๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡ณ, 3-2
๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Saudi Arabia beat North Korea ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ต, 4-0

Day 10734
Wednesday, 9 January 2019

Oooh, Facebook finally updated the Messenger tab! I like it. It is simplistic. Only three tabs, and the first one is only chats. I would have liked it more if they had removed the ads and stories from the chats tab.

Ancestry.com is ignoring me. Is it acceptable to spam their Twitter? I emailed support via their website too, but no response. I am afraid I lost my money. They have not confirmed if they received it or not. If not, they are supposed to send me a replacement kit. I could call them, the problem being when they talk on the other end. My A2 brain wouldn’t understand a word.

My roommate and I ordered DNA tests around the same time, but he chose MyHeritage.com instead. He got his results today, and I don’t even know if my sample is safe or lost. I just discovered their Facebook page, and I got an email within 11 minutes of posting on their page. Is that coincidence or what? But they addressed me as “Frau Bhat”. I am not offended. I have a unisex name. I get it. At least they responded.

Also, I need to register as an overseas voter for the general elections in April.

After Round 1: India, Jordan, China, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Japan lead their respective groups.

“She Stole My Heart” Nagpur Man Reports Theft, Cops Not Amused. Cheers for wasting valuable police time and resources. -facepalm-

I earned a new nickname in German class today. Petra, the teacher asked everybody what we wished to be as grownups when we were a kid. I tried to say coconut seller but everybody caught only the first word… And now I am a Kokosnuss.

Lauren Puffling says,ย “It’s an ambitious future – coconuts travel to every land, bobbing over the seas to seek new horizons; they go with the flow; they’re nutritious, popular and a bit hairy; they always show up at fetes and carnivals – and they always make people think of summer sunshine. Not a bad thing to live up to.”

And that is why she is an author, kids. A conjurer of words.

My right temple and right eye is hurting again. These headaches are wrecking my days. I cannot function with the constant pain. I got ibuprofen. I have never taken it before, I’ll take one after dinner. I think I am going to sleep early tonight.

Cricket:
๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ผ Zimbabwe beat Namibia ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

Football, AFC Asian Cup:
๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ Thailand beat Bahrain ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ญ, 1-0
๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ด Jordan beat Syria ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡พ, 2-0
๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ช United Arab Emirates beat India ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ, 2-0

India in second place now.

I look at my LinkedIn and I go- “That me?”

If potential employers look at my Facebook, they ain’t getting nothing. I stopped posting stuff years ago.

Somebody from American Samoa landed on my blog today. Do you know where American Samoa is? Literally in the middle of nowhere, apparently the only inhabited territory belonging to the USA that is south of the equator. Military base, probably. 50,000 local Samoans in a 196 sq km otherwise holds no interest. I suspect American military is watching my blog. I have their attention now. So much pressure to live up to it.

I find it very amusing when random people land on my blog. That is the 33rd country my site has reached.

It has not snowed here, except for that one time two months ago. I am not complaining. Perhaps I got used to it, but I am not finding the winter as has hard to survive as last year.

Cricket, ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ South Africa vs Pakistan ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ฐ, End of Day 1:
South Africa (1st inning) 262 all out
Pakistan (1st inning) 17/2
Pakistan trail by 245 runs

Day 10737
Saturday, 12 January 2019

In today’s news, a UAE Man Locks Up Indian Football Fans in Bird Cage Ahead of Asian Cup Match, Video Goes Viral. I cleaned the kitchen, bathroom, shaved, applied hair oil, showered, and now I am at the Waschsalon. And I woke up at 8. I am on fire today.

So, what is with this “government shutdown” in the USA I keep hearing about? Good luck on the first day back after the shut down. There must be a way to get rid of a rogue leader. It is a bloody democracy. Or a republic. Or whatever. How bad do things have to get before people realise it is time to do something? I feel so sorry for the people of USA right now.

What is the difference between a democracy and a republic again? I only remember memorising that India is a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic, republic. That is literally the first line of the constitution. I do not bother remembering what means what. They all sound the same to me.

WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and to secure to all its citizens
 JUSTICE, social, economic and political;
 LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;
EQUALITY of status and of opportunity; and to promote among them all
 FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation;
IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY this 26th day of November, 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION.

I just looked up the definitions, and I am pretty sure the USA is also a democracy/republic. Democracy = no monarch, power with the people; Republic = elected representatives of, for, and by the people. Democracy and republic kinda go together. As for oligarchy… That is an unfortunate circumstance, a possible product of being a republic.

Having read about the Roman empire during Caesar’s time, and watched the BBC/HBO TV series Rome, the very word Senate has evil connotation for me. I hear Senate and I think rich, elitist dicks. USA needs a system overhaul and some new terminology, maybe also get a Prime Minister while they are at it. They are giving way too much power in the hands of one person, the current one being more of a overgrown baby.

Random statement of the day: The Italian girl in my German class, Giada Tosi, is so adorable.

I am currently watching the 4th season of Sherlock. Wait, so Sherlock Holmes has a sister? I just got to that part. I love the final episode! Brilliant ending. I thought Sherlock had lost its charm by the third season, but the final episode was good redemption. That will be a 9/10 for the series overall from me.

Cricket:
๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Australia beat India ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ
๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ต Nepal beat China ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ
๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ช United Arab Emirates beat Thailand ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ Indonesia beat Hong Kong ๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ฐ
๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ Thailand beat Myanmar ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฒ

India lost the game. I feel like the Indian team isn’t ready for the World Cup yet. It is only 5 months away. They play well in Tests and T20s but their One Day performances have been disappointing.

Cricket, ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ South Africa vs Pakistan ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ฐ, End of Day 2:
South Africa (1st inning) 262 all out
Pakistan (1st inning) 185 all out
South Africa (2nd inning) 135/5
South Africa lead by 212 runs

Football, AFC Asian Cup:
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ท Iran beat Vietnam ๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡ณ, 2-0
๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ถ Iraq beat Yemen ๐Ÿ‡พ๐Ÿ‡ช, 3-0
๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Saudi Arabia beat Lebanon ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ง, 2-0

Day 10738
Sunday, 13 January 2019

The final part of my Hanuman trilogy is underway:

MFK 1

Killing/murder nightmares are shit scary. It is just anxiety though. They do not mean anything. If you have one, ty not to worry too much about it. It is just your brain going crazy. I know it is not easy, but I would say enjoy the show. It is your subconscious reacting to anxiety in your real life. If you let the dream bother you more, that would result in a spiral effect. Do not ignore them, just look at them as a movie your dream is producing. Wake up, applaud your brain, have a glass of water, and go “what you got for me next?” Definitely not easy, but worth a try.

I have been there. They are just dreams. TV episodes you are forced to watch. More importantly, it is an indication of something bothering you in real life. You may want to address those. The dreams will stop. A conscious effort to manage your everyday life better will go a long way in ensuring a good night’s sleep.

I am no expert. I still struggle. Just a few years wiser.

Perhaps you could try Cognitive Based Therapy, but I don’t know if it is a thing we can try on ourselves at home or it requires supervision from a psychologist. I was advised it to stop my nail biting habit but I haven’t been to a professional. I have no idea what it is or how that works. I have been biting my nails since childhood, and I cannot stop it no matter how much I try. Worse, people, mostly my parents, do not understand why. They would think I do it on purpose, and it is as easy to stop as an off switch. Wrong.

I have really bad days when my fingers are bleeding, and I am unable to hold a pen. I do not think it has got that worse in the past year in Germany though. But I still bite, and it is embarrassing. I have to hide my hands in my pockets so people do not see it.

Enough serious talk. Let us get back to my drawing. I am trying to draw a horse and keeps looking like a velociraptor. Help!

I have already made 3 attempts. I might just give up. That horse head is going to be a velociraptor head, I am helpless. The boar also looks more like a dog without the tusk, I just realised. I suck big time at drawing faces.

I did it. Ain’t no Novi tellin’ me I can or can’t do somethin’.

Meanwhile, there is me, then there is this legend.

Apolline asks,ย “Do you always draw according to a model? Or also your own creation?”

A mix of both, actually. But I prefer drawing off something because it is relaxing. I do not have to use my brain a lot. I do add a little of me in each of them though.

Now that the trilogy is complete, I made a separate post talking about it. That completes my The Monkey from Kishkindha trilogy. No more mythology, for now. My next project is Lauren Puffling’s anthology. But the deadline is two months away, so I am going to take my time. And study.

I am currently watching the S03E06 of Black Mirror. Kelly Macdonald speaks with a distinct accent in this episode. I have never heard that one before. What is that?

Reddit says the accent is Glasgowian, if such a thing exists. So Scottish, basically. I like it. Sexy. I need to find a Scottish friend, so I can listen to them speak.

Fun Fact: Kelly Macdonald played Helena Ravenclaw in the Harry Potter movie.

“What is Black Mirror?”, asks silly Val-E.

Horrors of the future, that is what it is.

“It examines modern society, particularly with regard to the unanticipated consequences of new technologies. Episodes are standalone, usually set in an alternative present or the near future, often with a dark and satirical tone. It highlights topics related to humanity’s relationship to technology, creating stories that feature the way we live now โ€“ and the way we might be living in 10 minutes’ time if we’re clumsy. The ‘black mirror’ of the title is the one you’ll find on every wall, on every desk, in the palm of every hand: the cold, shiny screen of a TV, a monitor, a smartphone.”

There are 19 episodes in all. I am on the 13th one. Too real. Too scary.

Val says,ย “Put the black mirror down and go meet real people.”

Week 1533 : Frohes Neues Jahr

Continued fromย Day 10724

Day 10725
Monday, 31 December 2018

I watched Bandersnatch today. This is my first movie of its kind. The annoying thing is there is no time stamp, so unlike in choose-your-path books where I note down the page numbers so I can go back and read all endings, I cannot do that here. I have no time or patience to rewatch the whole thing all over again just to pick a different option. So I read about them and watched a spoiler-filled YouTube video instead.

Also, read this. But only after you have watched the movie. Because spoilers.

The ending I got was I took the toy back and chose to go with the mother on the 0845 train. I did not get to chop up the body of the dad, end up in prison and see the game do well. I also missed the scene of Colin’s daughter reviving the game. I did kill the dad one time using the ashtray but he just buried him in the yard and eventually went to prison for it. The Netflix part was fun too!

Bandersnatch is really well made though, technically. I would rate it an 8, maybe even a 9, just for the concept and execution. The actual plot is a little sketchy, and might lose a few points with viewers because it is sensitive, and also towards the end I had begun to get deja vu vibes of The Butterfly Effect and Mr. Nobody.

I did not have Netflix before, so I only just started watching Black Mirror. It works that there are only 19 episodes. I finished the 4th today. The first episode was depressing. But that set the tone of the shock factor for the following episodes, so I feel like I am kinda getting immune with each episode.

In other news, Konkani sees sharpest drop in speakers across country. This is sad to hear about. Konkani is a dying language and we are unable to do anything about it. It is officially my native language but I only use it anymore when I speak to my parents and sister.

For us, 1 January is just a formality. In our culture, the new year is the first day of the lunisolar calendar month of Chaitra, which is 9 April in 2019. But I love 1 January too, since the whole world celebrates. I will not be watching any fireworks this year. I want to start 2019 early and well.

Cricket, Karnataka vs Chhattisgarh, End of Day 2:

Indian fashion in the 1980s. I don’t care because my mum is in her early 20s and she looks gorgeous. And I have clearly inherited my bad sense of fashion from my dad.

Do you believe that just because somebody did/said something wrong in the past, it doesn’t mean they can’t advocate against it now? Maybe they grew? Or should they be written off as a hypocrite and let their past invalidate their current mindset?

Madi says,ย “I think it may be difficult for someone to take advice from that person without calling them a hypocrite, but I also think if said person openly acknowledges what they did and frames it as a way to explain why doing that will result in regret, I think they should speak up.”

I wholeheartedly agree. So here goes. I may have been guilty of male chauvinism, patronisation, racism and homophobia that may have offended some people in the past, that led to me refraining from voicing any sort of opinion in public whatsoever for all these years. I will admit it on record right here, on this day. I don’t need to be afraid anymore. I will also not blame my culture, upbringing, and lack of exposure for shaping my opinion the way it used to be, because that would still be, after all, an excuse. And ain’t no Novi givin’ no ‘xcuses. Yes, I was wrong. Yes, I used to be a douchebag. What you gonna do about it? I learnt, I grew, and like a true engineer who was born to solve problems, I am back to fix the world. Don’t believe me? Look at the logo of this blog in the top left corner of this page. Still don’t believe me? I don’t care. Watch me.

I ordered the green and yellow German books on Amazon. They will be arriving on Friday. I should be home to receive them.

Cricket, Karnataka vs Chhattisgarh, End of Day 3:

Day 10727
Wednesday, 2 January 2019

Here is an interesting anecdote for no reason at all:

Emperor Akbar had a temper which he was aware of, so to make sure he did not take rash decisions on an impulse, he had ordered his prime minister to only carry out an order if he said it three times, each a meal apart (at least 4 hours each). That way decisions that were made on impulse almost never passed the test. He’d have enough time to cool off, sometimes even sleep over it, and think over it rationally before it became law.

The AFC Asian Cup starts this week. Excited! India has qualified for the 4th time in 62 years. They previously qualified in 1964, 1984 and 2011.

The teams:
Group A: ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ช United Arab Emirates, ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ Thailand, ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ India, ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ญ Bahrain
Group B: ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Australia, ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡พ Syria, ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ Palestine, ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ด Jordan
Group C: ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท South Korea, ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ China, ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ฌ Kyrgyzstan, ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ Philippines
Group D: ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ท Iran, ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ถ Iraq, ๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡ณ Vietnam, ๐Ÿ‡พ๐Ÿ‡ช Yemen
Group E: ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Saudi Arabia, ๐Ÿ‡ถ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Qatar, ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ง Lebanon, ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ต North Korea
Group F: ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต Japan, ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฟ Uzbekistan, ๐Ÿ‡ด๐Ÿ‡ฒ Oman, ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ฒ Turkmenistan

Don’t ask why Australia is playing in the Asian Cup. They’re weird.ย Having said that, India has a real chance of progressing to the next stage.

Do you believe you have to be the best at everything, or is it okay to be mediocre as long as you’re enjoying it? Do you aim for the high score every time or do you simply play because you love the game?

I watched the 5th episode of Black Mirror today. I was wrong about Black Mirror. There is no “getting immune” to it. Every episode hits you just as hard.

The Monkey from Kishkindha

This is legit my most sketched drawing during childhood, after the scenery, of course. The Ramayana book we had, had this picture on the back of the cover. I used to sketch this as a kid every time we had a guest over at a house and present it to them. If you are wondering why he is carrying a mountain, here’s the legend:

When Ravana’s son Indrajit hurls a powerful weapon at Lakshmana, Lakshmana is badly wounded and is nearly killed. Hanuman is called upon to fetch the Sanjeevani herb from Mount Dronagiri in the Himalayas. Upon reaching Dronagiri, Hanuman cannot identify the herb and lifts the whole mountain and brings it to the battlefield.

If you are given two minutes to draw something, what would you guys make? This is what I would most likely do:

The 2-Minute Scenery

Women are so fussy about their bras. My ex-girlfriend got mad and would never let me touch it. She thought I would ruin the elasticity. She would insist on taking it off herself. Any more details would be tmi/overkill. It was a long time ago. In fact, I don’t remember the details. I dumped her for another girl who broke up with me after graduation. Everybody (especially me) was a douchebag in their college days. Lessons learnt. I haven’t been in a relationship in 8 years. At this point, I don’t even notice the lack of it.

Cricket, ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Australia vs India ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ, End of Day 2:
India (1st inning) 622/7 declared
Australia (1st inning) 24/0
Australia trail by 598 runs

622 is their 21st highest score ever (India’s highest ever score is 759 against England in 2016), fourth highest against Australia, and second highest in Sydney. No way India is losing from here in the next 3 days.

Cricket, ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ South Africa vs Pakistan ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ฐ, End of Day 2:
Pakistan (1st inning) 177 all out
South Africa (1st inning) 382/6
South Africa lead by 205 runs

Day 10730
Saturday, 5 January 2019

I finished watching first and second episodes of season three. Black Mirror has convinced me that our future is messed up. There were some Inception like elements in the second, but because I did not see it coming, that was the steal.

Most regular domestic flights are Airbus A320s these days because nearly all domestic airlines own only those. It is rare to get to travel in a Boeing inside India anymore. It is the opposite in America. I hear people on the Pacific coast are very particular about their Seattle-based aircraft manufacturer. I believe the phrase is, “If it’s not Boeing, I’m not going.”

Ari asks, “How shall we fly when we run out of dinosaur juice?”

Yeah, about that. I have no idea how far they are with alternative propulsion. If and when we run out of dinosaur juice, at current progress, expect air travel to get insanely expensive, because electric, solar or whatever else they use cannot carry the payload over distance like aviation fuel. Actually, that concerns me too. And also astonishes me. I read that the Boeing 747 burns 10-11 tonnes of fuel an hour, which is approximately 4 litres per second. The amount of flights that operate daily around the world, the numbers are mind-boggling. Why haven’t we run out already? How many dinosaurs did we have?!ย (I’m joking, I know there were plants and trees, don’t get cheeky in the comments section)

Cricket, ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Australia vs India ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ, End of Day 3:

Day 10731
Sunday, 6 January 2019

I have a new favourite Black Mirror episode- Shut Up And Dance (S03E03). They are all so close though. The quality is top notch throughout. My least favourite episode, if at all, would have to be Fifteen Million Merits (S01E02). It is the least messed up, and that is saying something. Also, I have only watched 10 so far. I still have 9 to go.

Read about how Chinaโ€™s unconventional war is inflicting greater damage on India. Also, Donald Trump mocks Indian prime minister for building library in Afghanistan. At least we are not building walls, Mr. Trump. It is a pity when the US international affairs office has to release a statement to clarify that, “there is a difference between remarks and the official policy of a country”, which basically means we’re not responsible for whatever our President may say or tweet.

Besides, don’t believe him. India also built hospitals, roads and dams. The US has 14,000 troops stationed. They are doing their part in nation rebuilding, India is doing theirs. It is a collective effort. Unfortunately, the President of the USA does not get it.

San Junipero (S03E04) is the most beautiful episode so far. Interesting, but I wouldn’t call it messed up. I loved it!
