Week 1531 : Herr Professor

Continued from Day 10710

Day 10711
Monday, 17 December 2018

I do not understand the purpose of having a United Nations if you’re going to have a vote to retain Tel Aviv as the capital, and 128 nation members vote for it (and 35 others chicken out), but you change it to Jerusalem anyway. Like, what message are you trying to send across to the rest of the nations, America? In other (old) news, American mathematicians solve Ramanujan’s deathbed puzzle.

I signed the apartment contract today. They provided me with an English translation. It would have taken me ages to read/understand 8 pages of legal German. I move in on the 1st of March. I met a guy from Hosur at the Studierendenwerk office. He spoke near-perfect Deutsch. Upon enquiring, I found out he had learnt up to C1 level, and it took him nearly two years to get that far.

I started A2 today. I reached an hour late to class because of the contract signing, and I felt left out for the most part of the next hour. See, this is why I am never late to class. I just cannot catch up! Oh, we are joined by a new girl in class. Her name is Malika, and she is from Tajikistan. Head over to The World Is My Classroom for the full coverage, if you have not already.

I had no idea Tajikistan is that close to India. The closest to Tajikistan I have been to is Leh, Ladakh. USSR was a lot closer to India, geography wise, than I had thought. Now the shortest route to Russia is via Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and finally Russia. Or you just take a flight, haha.

Day 10712
Tuesday, 18 December 2018

You are welcome. I am not giving you those 3 minutes of your life back.

Vir Das says, “80% of America speaks English good. 20% of America speaks English well. If you don’t understand the difference, then you will make America great again. I promise you. It will happen because of you.”

A2 is hard. That escalated quickly. I can’t wait for the two week break after Friday. I need a breather from an overdose of new German stuff every day. And also study for exams, hopefully.

Day 10713

Started something this morning. I don’t know how it’s gonna turn out. I need to get ready for class now. Proportions are hard.

Ich habe meine A1 abgeschlossen und mit A2 angefangen. Ich kann jetzt lange Sätze machen. Ich bin stolz auf mich. I try to converse with my friends only in German now. Not the best, but we’re all learning. Das Leben ist sehr schwer.

Random Statement: I’ve ridden yaks, elephants, camels… I don’t remember riding a horse. Also, I am sleepy when I get bored but I have never dared to fall asleep in class. I pinch, punch, slap… Do anything to stay awake.

German classes have been amazing, so far. Four hours every day just go by without realising. I wake up at 6 AM and actually look forward to going to class. I wish I had joined sooner (but then I would not have met the amazing people mentioned above). My only regret is this is not only intensive, it is hardcore express pace. I am afraid if I miss a day or even a session, I will be lost and fail to catch up, the way I feel in my university courses most of the time. Had I joined last year, I would not have had to go intensive. I could have done evening classes with leisure.

P.S. I will not lie that I do not like my new nickname- “Herr Professor”.

Cricket, 🇳🇿 New Zealand vs Sri Lanka 🇱🇰:
Sri Lanka (1st inning) 282 all out
New Zealand (1st inning) 578 all out
Sri Lanka (2nd inning) 287/3
Match drawn

Day 10714
Thursday, 20 December 2018

Australia was a poor choice for white settlers, just like moving away from the tropic is a bad choice for the darker skinned. The melanin absorbs whatever little sunlight leaving none for Vitamin D. I need more sunlight than this to survive. There is literally no sunlight this time of the year, believe me. It is forever chilly and cloudy. The summer was glorious though. I loved it. It was in the 20s and 30s, perfect for me.

I had a doses of Vitamin D injected over 6 months this one time in 2014. I had not left my dorm long enough and the doctor decided it was lack of nutrition (primarily Vitamin D) as the cause of my anxiety and depression.

Getting there. I only get, like, 30 minutes a day. It is a secret Santa gift for Claire.

I have been frequently getting this headache behind the eye. Always the left eye. It is so annoying. It makes me non-functional. I can’t do or think anything. It cannot be sinuses. Sinusitis for me is eyebrow bone and cheek bone. I can tell that. I wish it went away. Perhaps it is the cold. I have been trying my best to stay cheerful and not complain of it this time.

Last year, I was down with fever for over a week during the Christmas break. I watched the New Year’s fireworks from my bed, and I went home in February. This time I am not even going home.

Cricket:

Day 10715
Friday, 21 December 2018

I don’t know how to make Kate’s hair, haha. Do you think a framed print of this is an appropriate Christmas present?

Today was the last German class before the Christmas break.

Let That Sink In

I can come up with witty stuff once in a while, haha. German class turned into debate class today. There were arguments for and against regarding depression and mental illness. I simply zoned out for some reason. But that did not stop me from penning down my own little opinion.

It is the 21st of December. Time for the annual Love Actually viewing. Great Britain needs a prime minister like Hugh Grant. USA needs a Prime Minister too. For once, I am happy with the one we have.

Day 10716
Saturday, 22 December 2018

1 (1)

Done! The key is to not overdo it. New question: Where do I put this? I mean, how do I store it without damaging/smudging the graphite/charcoal? I will have to go to the stationary store and enquire.

Perfect. Deviantart rejected my print because it is “fan art”. I don’t want to sell it. I just want to send it to one person. I feel like an idiot now. I should have been aware of the law. I would have simply drawn a scenery or something. The law requires legal permission from the production company that produced the movie. Since I am technically ordering a print even if it is my own creation, it still qualifies as a “sale”. How else do I order a print without physically mailing internationally which could take at least a month? I bought a fixative for now. I will go home and figure out what to do next.

2000 views on this blog and 1000 views on DeviantArt. I am a celebrity, guys.

What is the procedure to approach a cute girl in retail when she’s working? Asking for a friend, just in case, in the distant future. The girl in the stationary store who helped me find the fixative was pretty and had an amazing smile and curly hair and… That is all I know about her. It is for future. I don’t know if I am going back to the stationary store. I got all I need.

I have technically never asked a girl out in person, so I am a bit low on experience in this. I am way more eloquent over text. The one time I tried to give a girl my number, she refused to take it, haha. I have zero luck with online dating either. I have 7 dating apps installed on my phone, not one is helping me right now. There, you need to match before you can catch. I cannot flirt to save my life. It sucks when you cannot tell if they cannot take a hint or you did not drop any. I personally do not hang around girls I am attracted to. I avoid them like the plague because I know I am going to be awkward. But, get this, I also have more girl friends than guys, who I am perfectly comfortable hanging out with. I am sure I will be cool meeting most of my internet friends, having known them for over 4 years now. Except if they white people, they still intimidate me. It is a cultural thing, takes a while to see them as normal just like me.

We listened to the Bavarian accent in German class the other day, and- wtf is that? German was hard enough, and then we discovered accents.

Cricket:
West Indies beat Bangladesh 🇧🇩

Cricket, Karnataka vs Railways, End of Day 1:
Karnataka (1st inning) 208/9
Karnataka lead by 208 runs

Day 10717
Sunday, 23 December 2018

Where Australia is winning:

I love babies, but making one is so much work. I have to find a consenting female human, do stuff, wait 40 weeks… –sigh-

I watched P. S. I Love You. It was okay. 7/10.

Cricket, Karnataka vs Railways, End of Day 2:
Karnataka (1st inning) 214 all out
Railways (1st inning) 143 all out
Karnataka (2nd inning) 41/0
Karnataka lead by 112 runs

Continue to Day 10718.
