Die Französische Schafe

Continued from Day 10645

Day 10646
Saturday, 13 October 2018

What is something you think you will regret in the future not starting now, and what is something you already regret not starting sooner? I am going to regret not exercising now, when I am old and creaky. I regret not making the best of my 20s, now that I’m almost done with them. I could have achieved so much more.

I have been having problems with motivation for some time. I don’t know how to fix it. I tried counselling last winter. It did not seem to help me. I mean it is nice talking to the counsellor, they are sweet and I feel good but it did not help my lacklustre productivity. I am not going back again. I will have to come up with something on my own. This is my battle.

I haven’t showered since Monday. Procrastination hit a new low. How lower can I really go? Just when I start to think I have hit rock bottom. Sucks.

1602 h: I shaved, showered, and made lunch. I feel slightly better about myself now. Pulao and fried mackerel for lunch.

1657 h: I lost my appetite. Couldn’t finish it. That will be my dinner now.

I don’t think advent calendars are a thing in India. I never knew of them. We bought a second hand refrigerator for €10. My arms are aching from carrying it a block. It is down in the basement for now. Tomorrow, we are going to carry it up three floors. I hope it serves us well after all the effort.

Who else remembers the time when John Carpenter pulled off this shit back in 1999?

Day 10647
Sunday, 14 October 2018

I just signed up on Reddit. It looks good! It has been a month since I got back from India.

Charles M. Schulz said, “Don’t worry about the world coming to an end today. It is already tomorrow in Australia.”

Going through a breakup? None of us are good with closure. I took years to get over my last relationship, not saying you should. But, I would say let go and move on, knowing it is harder than it sounds. Hanging on and wallowing in self pity will only make it worse, and you might even lose out on potentially meeting someone a lot better.

I failed Space Mission Engineering, again. I should not have taken the exam this time. What was I thinking? I don’t even know if they allow a 3rd attempt. I am so screwed. If one decides to attempt the exam for a course, one has to pass it, I guess. Or not take it at all, and take other courses. I think I am past that now. Stupid me went and failed twice. I don’t know the rules about number of attempts. If they allow a 3rd attempt, I have to repeat the course and attend the classes again this semester. If there is no 3rd attempt, I have no idea what is coming. We are going to find out very soon.

The lecture is on Tuesday evenings. I guess I can make time for the class, but that means skipping Mathematical Optimisation tutorials. Sigh. I am so pissed with myself right now. I can’t even do one thing right anymore. I couldn’t pass in two attempts, how dumb am I?

I think I finally found the motivation I had been looking for throughout my 20s. Attend the lectures again. Study hard. Don’t be an idiot.

Cricket, 🇮🇳 India vs West Indies:
West Indies (1st inning) 311 all out

Day 10648
Monday, 15 October 2018

I went to the Schlosspark Schönau today. A castle in the middle of a pond, ducks and deer, and crunchy fallen leaves. I had a late breakfast and now I have a headache. Why do I do this? I’m having sardine curry, rice, papad, pickle and a beer for dinner. I think I found my favourite beer. Schloss Radler. I’m a novice. I have only had beer a handful of times. I had alcohol only once before I moved to Germany. Rum on New Year’s Day 2015. That was at Air Force camp.

So this happened here today. Fortunately not a terrorism threat, just one loose nutjob.

What, according to you, is your best feature? You have to name one physical and one character trait. I have shitty brown eyes, so surely not those. I would say my smile and curly hair. Character wise, I think it is my calm exterior persona (even if I am freaking out on the inside). I have been told I can keep a blank face through immense pressure/stress, which provides a sense of calm and relief to those in my company, because they believe I know what I am doing.

My favourite celebrities are Sachin Tendulkar, AR Rahman, Shah Rukh Khan, Michael Schumacher, Jim Carrey, Farhan Akhtar… The list goes on. My celebrity crush for the longest time was Zooey Deschanel. What about you?

Personally, I feel the human race is past its prime. We are on the downfall. It is only a matter of time before we lead ourselves into extinction, and be replaced by a new species at the top of the food chain. Sometimes I get the feeling that the planet and nature is running out of patience with us, seeing as natural disasters are increasingly becoming common as well as growing in intensity.

I never took the classes very seriously on HiH, even though I am proud of the fact that Ravenclaw have won 4 of the 5 House Cups so far. I am still a 3rd year, and the last time I did any “homework” was back in 2016. I would love to go back and finish all courses in all years some day. Just not right now.

I do talk to my internet L42 friends, however. I take pride that I brought them together. Maybe not on a daily basis, but do I get in touch every now and then, just to see how they have been doing. Everybody has got their own private little lives to focus on, just like you and I.

If you could replace the handshake as a greeting, what interesting new greeting would you replace it with? I vote Namaste.

Football:
Borussia Dortmund beat Alemannia Aachen, 4-0

Alemannia Aachen got their ass handed to them today.

Day 10649
Tuesday, 16 October 2018

Today, I went to the Kaiser-Friedrich Park and I looked at old people fishing, and read The Scarecrow by Michael Connelly.

I am proud of the grit and resolve of my people throughout history, for surviving 2,500 years of invasions from the Greek, Islamic, and eventually the British empire, and coming out with its culture relatively unique and intact. We survived ’em all. I am least proud of the same grit and resolve that made society so conservative and resistant to change. Like, you know something is wrong, yet you do not want to change/improve that, because “tradition” and “that’s how things have always been around here”. What part of your culture are you most and least proud of?

Guess who’s going to Amsterdam tomorrow? Me. I have a date. Did you know Novi as the guy who will travel 4 hours by bus to spend 2 hours with someone? Now you do, and she is special.

Cricket, 🇵🇰 Pakistan vs Australia 🇦🇺, End of Day 1:
Pakistan (1st inning) 282 all out
Australia (1st inning) 20/2
Australia trail by 262 runs

Day 10650
Wednesday, 17 October 2018

I am back! Amsterdam obviously looked prettier than the last time I was here with my guy friends. We just walked the streets and talked for three hours. There was so much to catch up on.

The day started out the worst. First, I missed my bus, so I had to catch the next bus, the new ticket (one way) cost me an additional €36 (the original ticket price was €28 both ways). I caught up with the earlier bus in Eindhoven and switched buses (because it takes a shorter route and reaches sooner and I already had a ticket), so I literally paid €36 for Aachen to Eindhoven. Then, as soon as I sat in the bus, I realised I left my brand new €4.99 scarf in the previous bus. I was in such a bad mood, and was cursing myself.

But eventually it was worth it. 🙂 (For more details, read: The Curious Case of Shilpamma)

I was constantly checking my watch (discreetly, of course) because I did not want to repeat the mistake and miss the bus again. I did not pay attention to the story she was narrating. But she is so adorable.

I saw a railway crossing in Maastricht on the way back. I had never seen one before here. It is quite common back in India. Crossings are an outdated thing. They are being replaced with flyovers or under bridges. They only exist in the rural areas now. Maybe I noticed one today because I travelled by road outside Aachen for the first time. I always take trains otherwise. The bus stopped so I realised it was a crossing.

My favourite place in India is Ladakh. What is your favourite place in your country?

Cricket, 🇵🇰 Pakistan vs Australia 🇦🇺, End of Day 2:
Pakistan (1st inning) 282 all out
Australia (1st inning) 145 all out
Pakistan (2nd inning) 144/2
Pakistan lead by 281 runs

Cricket:
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England beat Sri Lanka 🇱🇰

Continue to Day 10651.
